Overview
The underground coal mine in Handan, Hebei, China, is a critical site for coal production that requires enhanced security measures. To enable real-time monitoring of coal face operations, the project involved installing additional cameras in excavation areas.
Challenge
The project faced several challenges in implementing a surveillance system in the excavation areas:
● Harsh Environment: The excavation face had high dust levels, frequent relocation points, and strong vibrations, making traditional fiber optic solutions unsuitable due to their susceptibility to damage.
● Safety Concerns: The high methane content and dust made fiber optic splicing challenging, raising safety and quality concerns.
● Time Constraints: The project required rapid deployment to comply with local regulations and ensure operational safety.
Solution
The mine's communication technical team collaborated with Ourten to identify a viable solution:
● Effective Testing: On-site tests validated OT-L-DSL Ethernet Extender's performance in underground communication, demonstrating its ability to withstand harsh mining conditions.
● Simplified Deployment: OT-L-DSL leveraged existing 2-wire cables in the mining infrastructure, simplifying installation and minimizing disruption.
● High Performance: With symmetrical full-duplex transmission speeds of up to 10/100 Mbps over 2-wire cables, the solution covered distances of up to 9840 feet (3000 meters).
Result
Using OT-L-DSL Ethernet Extender, the client shortened the project duration to add 25 cameras in the underground excavation face to 3 days, significantly reducing the difficulty of workers' underground operations. The solution improved hazard monitoring capabilities, ensured long-term system stability, and enhanced the safety of coal mine workers.
