Overview
The Shanghai Tower, the tallest building in China, needed network cameras installed in its high-speed elevators for complete video surveillance. The existing fiber optics in the elevator cables were already in use, which made adding more fiber a complex and costly process.
Challenge
The project faced several challenges:
? Fiber Limitations: Existing fiber optics were allocated to other systems, leaving no room for new installations.
? High Costs: Adding external fiber optics would significantly increase expenses and complexity.
? Maintenance Concerns: The client needed a solution that minimized long-term maintenance challenges for the high-rise building.
Solution
Ourten collaborated with the contractor to address these issues:
? Technical Validation: On-site testing confirmed the OT-PLC602-T effectiveness in high-speed elevator environments.
? Efficient Deployment: The OT-PLC602-T used the existing 2-wire in traveling cables, simplifying installation and reducing disruption.
? High Performance: The solution supported 100 Mbps full-duplex transmission over 2-wire cables up to 3280 feet (1000 meters).
Result
Using the OT-PLC602-T, the client saved $90,000 on signal transmission costs for installing cameras in 65 high-speed elevators. The solution allowed the installation to be completed in just 4 days and it has operated normally without any maintenance issues till now. It not only sped up the project but also improved security in the Shanghai Tower elevators.
